Mihdalovi Tistechka (Almond Crescent Cookies)

Ukrainian cookies and cakes are a part of holidays and celebrations and often feature ingredients such as honey, apples, cherries, almonds and curd cheese. Try baking these traditional almond cookies - a simple yet delicious recipe - to enjoy for an upcoming gathering or with afternoon tea.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup butter
  • ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup chopped, blanched almonds
  • 2 cups flour 

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. With an electric mixer, combine butter, sugar, water, vanilla, and salt.
  2. Fold in the flour and pecans.
  3. Refrigerate for 1 hour.
  4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. 
  5. Shape small pieces of dough into crescents and place on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  6. Bake until delicate brown, about 12-15 minutes.
  7. Dip into powdered sugar while still slightly warm.
