Danny Ocean at The Kennedy Center

Meet Danny Ocean

This World Refugee Day, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, in collaboration with the Kennedy Center, presents Danny Ocean—Venezuelan singer, refugee advocate and UNHCR high profile supporter.

Venezuelan superstar Danny Ocean has been a supporter of UNHCR since 2019. Born in Caracas, Danny’s journey has taken him across the globe, from St. Vincent and the Grenadines to Namibia, before moving back to Venezuela where he graduated from college. Danny is now based in Mexico City where he continues to expand his unique sound and musical style.

Danny started writing and producing music as a teenager. He found his signature sound and began expressing his feelings through his lyrics and distinctive voice. Danny’s highest charting song, Me Rehúso, was inspired by his experience with forced displacement and the reality of being separated from the girl he loved. The song has received nearly three billion views and is the most listened to song in Latin America in the last decade.

Danny leverages his fame to support refugees and helps people forced to flee find hope away from home. In 2019, Danny Ocean performed at UNHCR’s Nansen Refugee Award Ceremony in Geneva, an event that highlights the incredible work ordinary people do to help refugees. His performance was dedicated to all the families who had to leave loved ones behind.
